Kitase Defends The 3rd Birthday

Square-Enix is defending a clothing mechanic in their upcoming PSP horror title, The 3rd Birthday: Parasite Eve. The third instalment in their Parasite Eve series features a gameplay mechanic which sees protagonist Aya Brea's clothes tear and rip in fights.

Talking to Eurogamer, producer Yoshinori Kitase said the feature isn't meant to be "sexy". "We didn't do that because we wanted to show her in a very sexy light," explaining that the feature is there for the sake of realism. "It's more like that's reality. If you keep fighting obviously you'll get ripped and damaged and injured and wounded. So we just wanted to make it plausible and realistic. That's all."

To be fair, the tearing only goes so far and any uncouth thoughts players have had will disappear once they see Aya's flesh being torn up. Besides that, taking on hordes of zombies with little in the way of clothes is rather dangerous.
