Xbox Live Prices Going up, No Increase For NZ

Published By: Morgan Bates   On: Tuesday 31 Aug 2010 1:45 PM

Earlier today Kotaku reported that Microsoft would be raising the price of Xbox Live Gold accounts. Beginning November 1st American subscribers will be an increase in yearly Xbox Live fees to $59.99, that's about NZD$86.

However, Kotaku AU has since confirmed with Microsoft that the price hike won't affect Australia or New Zealand. A Microsoft rep told Kotaku AU, “There are no plans for a price rise in Australia or New Zealand.”

Taking the current exchange rate into consideration, the American price hike brings it in line with (if a bit more than) what kiwi subscribers currently pay per year: $79.95.

Sad thing is that it won't even be reinvested into the Xbox Live service. The money is probably more likely going towards fixing millions of RRoD Xbox 360s.

All I can say is it's good they're smart enough not to try it here. Xbox owners are already paying too much (imo).

At this point, XBL is looking like paying to piss in a bucket. Sure, you could be pissing on the floor, but there's a bunch of people over in PC land pissing against a golden urinal for free. They also have a dude called Jeeves giving them a hand towel afterwards.

The price hike is just being tested for Americans, then if it works, they'll unleash it on the world (why wouldn't they?).

Doesn't the US get more content anyway? Like video streaming services?

Yeah Netflix, plus other services... NZ is paying for nothing basically, just added 'free' services like twitter and facebook.
Not worth it.
