It has been announced that chip maker AMD (Advance Micro Devices) will no longer use the brand ATI (Advance Technologies Inc) for its graphics chipsets in future product lines. The change over process will be a gradual one with current generation of products not affected.

The move to dissolve ATI had been expected since AMD’s acquirement of ATI in 2006, with AMD calling it an "evolution of the AMD brand portfolio". In proving how serious AMD took this issue, the company went out and surveyed “graphics-aware” users. AMD claims that acceptance increased once people knew of the merger, and that this was due to AMD’s stronger branding power.
