Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi has made an interesting announcement regarding while answering questions on his twitter. He tweeted (via Andriasang) that GT5 will require a small 256mb 'install' to run the game.

Yamauchi adds, that to get the smoothest ride possible, players will want to use an optional 10gig install.
The smallest PlayStation 3 SKU released in New Zealand was 40gigs so that's a quarter of their drive. Suffice to say, 40gig users will want to upgrade their HDD, if they haven't already.

Is this really an issue for anyone now? I chucked a 320GB drive in my PS3 a while ago and it cost me like $130. You can get one now for $100. I'd say if you have shelled out $600 (at least) on a PS3 and a bunch on games and extra controllers, you can afford to stick a $100 drive in there. It will also help you get the most out of your PS3 as a media center.
If you really, *really* can't, the install is optional.
Personally, I prefer an install over longer loading times.

I'm not too interested in every new technical update on consoles, but one of the few things I really approve of very highly is this recent ability to play games off the harddrives. On 360 Forza 3 runs a helluva lot smoother/quicker, and on Mass Effect 2 I got a glitch that wouldn't let me take my levelled-up character for a 2nd run through - it locked up at the exact same point every time. I installed the game to HD and the problem was fixed. I recommend it to everyone.

I think it's an issue for those with the 20GB or 40GB PS3's and those who don't know you can whip out the HDD and put in a new one.Is this really an issue for anyone now? I'm all for an install if it'll make my game run faster I just have a minor annoyance with having to wait 10-20 minutes for it to install before I can play it, ha! But hey, it's a once off thing so it's no real biggie.
Im sure most 40/60/80GB owners have upgraded? Shouldnt be an issue for most. But for sum its only a small install required.
I wonder what the difference in gameplay is? just load times?

Meh, at least it isn't a 10gig 'day-one update'..
Now that'd suck..
