Mass Effect 2 has been announced for the PlayStation 3. The, now former Xbox 360 exclusive, was released earlier this year to mainly positive reviews. The announcement was made during EA's Gamescom press conference.
Check out the trailer:
Depending on how Mass Effect 2 well does on PlayStation 3, there's a good chance they will make Mass effect 3 multiplatform. Mass Effect 1, on the other hand, is no where in sight. An EA rep told ign that Mass Effect 1 will stay a Xbox 360 exclusive. However, Mass Effect 2 for PS3 is said to contain hours of (unspecified) extra content.
Mass Effect 2 will be released on PlayStation 3 early 2011.

WOOOOO!!!!! Cant wait. Kinda makes me regret getting the collectors edition on PC lol. Ah well.
Definitely want to play this and was going to go back to my xbox to do it... maybe dont need to?
But will it port well? last thing i would want are typical framerate issues of the ps3 ports. Think ill wait to see how it reviews, can nzgamer do one please comparing it to the 360 version ie extra content and any issues/differences.. :)

Er, what? I don't know about you, but for almost any game I care to name on both PC and PS3, the PC version wins due to having better controls.

Really happy about this, it's one of the titles I really wanted from the 360 range.

Anyway, yes and no. It's all personal preference, isn't it? While for FPS games I prefer the mouse and keyboard, I do often find myself missing analog movement.

Too bad they didn't port the first one as well, so you can carry your saves over. I'll be sticking to 360 purely for this reason.

Yep I'll be sticking with my 360 Sheppard, gamers on other forums are pleading for cross platform transfer, will never happen. but if it did (download your Shep to EA account servers, would be a great way of playing through the story making different choices.

Good that this is finally coming to PS3. Shame that Microsoft own the exclusivity on ME1 but that's business. Still I'm sure they'll find some way of getting people up to speed on the story. Could have something to do with the hours of extra content they've been touting. From their website...
"Mass Effect 2 PS3 will feature hours of bonus content making it the perfect entry point to the franchise."
They can't say it provides the "perfect entry point" if it doesn't somehow cover the story from the beginning?

An update on how they're going handle the lack of ME1 on PS3

They don't confirm much but it sounds like there might be an (possibly interactive) intro sequence that covers the major ME1 story points. I wonder if they'll let you make some choices that will have an influence over what happens in ME2 or if they'll just prescribe the default choices like they do if you don't have an ME1 save file to import?

Good call. Usually prefer mouse aiming for FPS. Either way, awesome game & looking forward to getting the DLC's.
