ZeniMax, the parent company of Id Software and Bethesda Softworks, has acquired Arkane Studios. The acquisition was announced by Bethesda's Pete Hines during QuakeCon. In addition to developing Arx Fatalis and Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, Arkane Studios also did level design work on BioShock 2.

1up reports that at the studio's keynote, CEO Raphael Colantonio expressed his honour at being under the same parent company as Id Software and Bethesda. Then he teased a new project to be shown at future events, including the QuakeCon in progress.
In a tweet, Id Software's John Carmack said “I’m showing something neat and unannounced at quakecon tomorrow. Deciding if I should leave it be or sneak a little more code in…” Given that we already know about Rage and Doom 4, it's likely this refers to Arkane's project.
