Tauranga based game design school, Digischool has announced that they have secured a license agreement with German developer Crytek to use the CryEngine 3 in their courses, making them the first institution in New Zealand to have an license agreement with the developer.

The CryEngine 3 is a cross platform engine so the students could potentially test their games on PC, PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360.

Yes we are very excited to have this license agreement.
We are currently testing the new features over the coming weeks. A much cleaner and cooler editor layer out than Sandbox 2. As we have an educational agreement we can now get out students to study all aspects of the engine. I hope other gaming schools can get there hands on it so we have a supportive gaming community. The physics are amazing.
Very keen to test out the load to console functions.

we only got the engine source code the sand box editor and some assets and also a program to load the maps. so it did't come with a game or anything but it should be compatible with Crysis 2 when it comes out.

The Educational SDK is not meant to be run on Consoles, as it is for the purpose of studying Crytek's technology.

Potentially we could make standalone games and simulations but that would be outside the agreement we have with Crytek.

Digischool is a Media Arts school by the way. Digischool also uses Vue8 for 3d landscape animation.
