360 Blu-Ray Rumour Denied Again

1up reports that in response to a query about the long-rumoured Xbox 360 Blu-ray drive add-on in an interview with CVG Xbox UK director Stephen McGill said:

"We have no plans to adopt Blu-Ray drive for the Xbox 360. In fact, the future of home entertainment started last autumn when Xbox 360 became the first and only console to offer instant-on 1080p streaming HD movies."

Speaking with Edge on the same subject, Aaron Greenberg added:

"Sony bet on the physical disc, and there are costs associated with that, the fact that we're able to offer a console starting at USD$199 is a benefit of not being burdened with that cost."

Greenberg also pointed out that "being USD$100 cheaper (than PS3) is part of the reason we're nearly twice their installed base." Later clarifying his point on twitter.

The sum up: Xbox 360 has a lead on PlayStation 3 because they gained a year head start and a lower price point from going with an older format and streaming HD movies instead of supporting Blu-Ray Discs.

Except digital distribution is a$$ for countries like ours. That and we don't have the same support as the U.S do we?

I still say, BLU RAY ALL THE WAY! It's like DVD. But better.

Also, this line: "streaming HD movies instead of Blu-ray." Oh? So you didn't mean to support HD-DVD for a year first? Jacka$$.

Yeah half the HD streaming services that the US gets aren't even available here, and would be near useless on our internet allowances. I still will buy and hire discs because I know there is not as much risk of losing the movie or wasting my broadband. Bluray is awesome, streaming is always going to have issues with framerates and so on.

DVD blu ray.... hmmmmmm games on ten discs or one..... i think blu ray... oh did i mention? PS3 games hold there value! X360 scratch infested trademe auctions (ew) paying that little bit extra for the PS3 keeps being a better solution and it will continue to as all the tech etc catches up to blue. 3D etc.... not going to be watching that on the 360 are ya?

I dont think it really even matters with bluray this gen. Most games will still come out in 720p for sometime until the dev cost of creating a large scale 1080p game comes down.
I dont have a problem in changing discs, only game ive had to do that in is Lost Odyssey, your just lazy if u moan about having to do it, which is still rare except maybe rpgs.

I think next gen xbox720 or whatever and PS4 will be more important to look at there media distribution choices as games go more into 1080p and the data size jumps massively

Like Spawn said, switching discs isn't an issue. If you can't get up after 15+ hours or so to switch a disk in 15-30secs you are pathetic.

Also, Microsoft won't get blu-ray. Seriously, this is Microsoft we are talking about. Why would they use a Sony product? I won't be surprised if they are working on something new themselves, even if HD-DVD failed hard they will probably still try again.
