At their GDC press conference Sony officially named their motion controller "PlayStation Move". They proceeded to give demonstrations with EyePet, Little Big Planet, a new title called Sports Champions, and Gladiator a medieval title in which a Sony rep used a PlayStation Move and a PlayStation Move sub-controller to wield a sword and shield - similar to the Wii Remote/Nunchuk combo.

The controller will feature a rechargable lithium-ion battery, the same as other PlayStation 3 controllers. It will also connect to the console via Bluetooth.
Described from the Sony's official press release, "The combination of the PS3 system and PlayStation Eye camera detects the precise movement, angle, and absolute position in 3D space of PlayStation Move motion controller, allowing users to intuitively play the game as if they themselves are within the game. PlayStation Move motion controller delivers unmatched accuracy through its advanced motion sensors, including a three-axis gyroscope, a three-axis accelerometer, and a terrestrial magnetic field sensor, as well as a color-changing sphere that is tracked by PlayStation Eye camera."
After showing off the demos Sony announced the following titles to support PlayStation Move - including some older titles. Previously released titles include Little Big Planet and EyePet, while new titles include Move Party, Motion Fighters, Sports Champions, and Socom 4.
The PlayStation Move is due for release late 2010.

I can see how people who have played a lot of Wii could be over the whole 'motion controller' thing. I haven't though and I can see this working well with 'core' games, which is the selling point for me.
Im not tired of motion gaming yet since i dont have a wii.
I think Sony cant or would have not chosen to use the Arc because microsoft already has a keyboard and mouse series named that.
I wont make the same mistake i did on the Wii in anticipation of some hardcore games... that never came.
If it was 'Gem', Sony would have had to make their tag-line 'truly.outrageous'
Dont care much for it till i see the games that use it.. and properly.

Natal appeals to me much more because:
1. I own an xbox. I don't own a PS3 or a Wii.
2. I don't need to buy a new controller or add-on for every person who also plays a game with me (although space may be in short supply).
3. I've played around with technology as part of my 4th year project, and have some access to it through work, so i have a deep understanding of how it works (and i assure you, it does work).
The Move feels too much like a copycat really; it does some things that the wii can't and does others better than the wii, but i think overall th control schemes are very similar. Natal might have a chance in this generation of motion control because it stands to take an entirely different approach.
as far as the name goes they might as well have called it playstation wave-your-arms-around-and-make-unintelligible-hand-movements-in-the-name-of-trying-make-gaming-more-active. If i want to play a game i don't want effort involved lol consle forever!. until the invent some awesome glove thing like the one from that old movie the wizard
