Sony has announced their acquisition of Media Molecule, the developer behind LittleBigPlanet. The deal ensures Sony will have exclusivity of all future Media Molecule titles - more specifically - LittleBigPlanet sequels as well as owning the intellectual property.

”Since they burst onto the gaming scene, Media Molecule have proved to be a truly exciting and innovative studio, who have proved their world-class credentials with the creation of the incredible LittleBigPlanet,” said Shuhei Yoshida, President, SCE Worldwide Studios. “SCE WWS is all about creating ambitious, innovative and ground breaking games, traits that Media Molecule clearly have. To bring them into our family proves our dedication to creating fantastic new experiences that we believe will cement our position as industry leaders.”

Must be a bit scary for MM after what IW just went through with Activision, but they'll be alright. Sony seem to work with the developers more and give them their creative space.
Yeah, I wonder what the future holds for MM mow? Will they forever be the LBP guys or will they get to try their hand at something different??
I would think, Mm annoucning they wouldn't make a sequal to Little Big Planet in favour of supporting the current title as it stands, will go out the window.
While Mm wanted the LBP community to continue to thrive as it has, and decided that after 2 million levels have been made and published in the game since it's launch, it would be counter productive to fracture the population. Sony want to make money, so will most likely start on a sequal immediately, and bury Mm's very sensible and fair approach to protecting their flagship franchise.

i think the guys at media molecule will sleep well on their mattresses of money regardless of what sony's plans are.
they built up a small shop, did something amazing and are now reaping the rewards with sony's acquisition. good on them. time to buy a house in the south of france and spend their days drinking wine.

I thought Sony did own them... haha well smart move by them.
Hopefully they dont just get roped into over developing one IP, Id like to see them do something else with LBP (DLCs and sequels) on the side.
