It's appearing that the error that has been plaguing all non-Slim PS3s may now be fixed.
Both the 8001050F error which popped up when the console would try to connect to PSN, as well as the trophy error message when playing certain games, are no longer appearing.
The issue, hinted at by Sony, appeared to be an issue with the internal battery and clock of the "fat" PS3s and misconfigured leap-years, meaning for the past 24 hours those PS3s have been living in 29/02/2010; a date that doesn't exist.
The issue appeared to resolve itself at around 1pm NZ time, which would fall in line with the logical assumption that the GMT-based internal clock (and NZ is +13 hours ahead of GMT) rolled over to 01/03/2010, and thus, PS3 owners are once again able to connect to the PSN.
It also appears that missing trophies may also be coming back once you attempt to launch the game that they were previously missing for. You will also need to reset your date and time under the Settings menu in the XMB.
Once we have official confirmation from Sony that the issue has righted itself we'll let you know.
Is everything working again for you, or are you still experiencing troubles? Let us know in the comments below.
Update:
Official comment from Sony NZ -
The internal clock functionality in the PS3 units other than the slim model, incorrectly recognized the year 2010 as a leap year. Having the internal clock date change from February 29 to March 1 (both GMT), we have verified that the symptoms are now resolved and that users are able to use their PS3 normally. If the time displayed on the XMB is still incorrect, users are able to adjust time settings manually or via the internet.
If we have new information, we will update you through the PlayStation blog (http://blog.eu.playstation.com/) or www.playstation.co.nz
We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.

And how will the system clock running 1 day behind affect content with expiry dates? I would assume that the content expiry would run off the system clock, to prevent people from turning the PS clock back to continue playing content after the expiry date...
Not sure that I'd call it fixed. A problem that comes right by itself will generally show itself again at some stage.

The clock that you can change is different from the bios clock, which I'm pretty sure you can't change at all, and that's what will be used for important date-specific stuff.
