Ah Disney, you sure know how to milk a franchise. Their latest money grab is the announcement of a game based off the popular and critically acclaimed Disney/Pixar production - Toy Story.
We all know the one. Who could forget Woody the Cowboy, Buzz Lightyear, those cool green army dudes and those other toys...
The titles is set to be released in conjunction with Toy Story 3 the movie. Early press reports indicate that Avalanche, the team behind the title, are looking to do something a little more than just replicate a movie in game form. Here is John Blackburn, Vice President and General Manager of Avalanche:
“Toy Story 3: The Video Game addresses a fact understood by every kid: imagination is what truly brings toys to life,”
“That’s really what a toy box is about. We remember that kind of play from our own childhood, and it’s where we began as game designers. With this title, we want to encourage and reward creativity in others.”
The title's major selling point is probably going to be the "Toy Box" feature.
"Toy Box is a virtual box full of toys. With an open-world sandbox-style of play, Toy Story 3: The Video Game taps into the beloved franchise’s humor and brings fans into the toys’ world to create their own unique story."
Toy Story 3 is set for an NZ release on July 15 2010. It will be available on PC, Xbox360 the Wii (which could actually be awesome with this title) and the PS3.
What do you think - could Avalanche produce a title that breaks out of the moribund movie supplement mould? Or is there no imagination left in this franchise?
