Microsoft has announced that they are shutting down the Xbox Live service for the original Xbox games - including original Xbox games that are playable on Xbox 360 - on April 15, 2010.

In a statement to Kotaku Xbox Live's Larry Hryb commented:
"While I can't comment on the specifics, this change will allow us to continue evolving the LIVE service with new features and experiences that fully harness the power of Xbox 360 and the Xbox LIVE community. We did not make this decision lightly, but after careful consideration and review we realize that this decision will allow us unprecedented flexibility for future features."
What these features are and why they required the deactivation of Xbox Live old the original Xbox remain to be seen.

I wish they would tell us what kind of use those old games are still seeing so we know how much of a big deal this actually is. Does anyone still play original xbox games, specifically online?
Amen, this is one of major factors that XBL friends lists are @ only 100ppl, due to infrastructure of the system used for Halo 2. This will hopefully see friends list grow to 500+. Great News!
