As you know a couple of weeks ago Europe and Australia got Metal Gear Solid on PlayStation Store, while New Zealand didn’t.

Today - after weeks of Disney licensed PS1 classics (some of which are pretty good) - Metal Gear Solid has hit PlayStation Store virtually unannounced and without a word from the parties involved in the delay, Metal Gear Solid is finally available in New Zealand for just $18.90 and weighs in at 748mb.
The release may have been timed to go with the release of Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops and Portable Ops+ for the PSP – or it’s just a wild coincidence!
So, who’s downloading Metal Gear Solid?

Haha, half the people that complained probably won't even get it now. I'm getting it after I've got everyone's Christmas presents.
I think these tie-ins always backfire. Had they released it when they should have, I likely would have taken the plunge. Now, however, I have a whole heap of games I've just bought to get through. There's also the new WoW patch too. Plus I just spent about $200 on Christmas gifts.
I'll probably leave this one as a fond memory for now.

You know what? I might just skip it too, after their c*ck up. I've got some new games to play now too. They should keep me busy.

I'll buy it.
Despite the f**k around, all the new games I want play, not having much money etc etc. It's still Metal Gear Solid.

Won't need to download it. I still have the original PSOne version still intact.

Have never tried but I thought all PS3's could play PS1 games regarless of whether they're backwards compatible with PS2 games?Do you have a PSOne to play it on? Or a first gen PS2? Because PS3 ain't playing it.

I could be completely wrong, just I remember hearing that a few times a while ago.

I thought they removed the chipsets that actually enabled the backwards compatibility. Keen to find my PSOne games and try that then :DHave never tried but I thought all PS3's could play PS1 games regarless of whether they're backwards compatible with PS2 games?

@jbl316, awesome that you're rocking the old systems man! :D

I would rather leave this as a fond memory, nearly every time I track down a game I loved when I was younger I regret it.
Good to see it finally make it to NZ though

I tend to agreed with this comment, I think 90% of the time, I fire up those old games I just feel like why did I love this game for?

Still got my hard copy from the PSone.
Like Redfield said this is Metal Gear Solid. And while some older games do lose there touch with time when you play them now, this doesn't. Played it when I played all MGS's before number 4 and enjoyed it more then I did back in 1990's.

Sony makes PS3 backwards compatible by putting a PS2 inside aswell, which would handle PS1 as well. Then they move to software emulation, won't play all games, but cheaper to build. Then they get rid of that all together, but they
A: keep the PS1 emulation software in, or
B: if the PS2 emulator simply had backwards compatibilty in order to play PS1 games, they developed and implemented a brand new emulator to play PS1 games.
I can't be the only person that finds it a little retarded (sorry Susan Boyle) that Sony would not save money/would spend more money just so we could still play Tekken 2 and MGS?

I just remembered I still have MGS and the Point Blank games at home, so I'm not gonna question the why, I'm just gonna dust of the old Gcon controllers and I just realised there's nowhere to plug them in... Arse-nuggets. Looks like I may as well just dust off the old PS1 console and play it on that. Back to questioning Sony's logic...

I still have this on PC and PS1 but prefer Twin Snakes to the original anyway. Fortunately, I have that too, but I've misplaced all my GC controllers including my Wavebird. That hurts, like a punch to the kidneys, or walking in on your parents f**king.
Lol wish i had money for this.
Although im trying to save to get MW2.

Didn't know BC models could play ps1 discs....if only I had my old games.
Yeah totally!
Might be fun for a go on PSP, but to be honest I didn't like this game. The Gamecube remake was miles better.

Agreed, most of the time if i fire up a game i loved as a kid i have that nostalgic feeling, 5mins of fun... then im over it. Better left to memories and cont with the present which will also be just memories one day.
