Kotaku.com are reporting that Rebellion’s latest Alien vs Predator is the latest game to receive the honor of being banned in Australia. “What will Rebellion do to water it down and will it be in our version?” you might ask.
The answer is nothing.
Rebellion issued the following statement in response to the banning.
"Rebellion is disappointed that its upcoming title Aliens vs. Predator has been banned in Australia. However, as we understand the law in that country the authorities had no choice as we agree strongly that our game is not suitable for game players who are not adults."
"The content of AvP is based on some of the most innovative and iconic horror movies, and as such we wanted to create a title that was true to the source material,”
In other words, movies did it first.
”It is for adults, and it is bloody and frightening, that was our intent. We will not be releasing a sanitised or cut down version for territories where adults are not considered by their governments to be able to make their own entertainment choices."
So unless Aussie gamers stage nationwide protests to change the OLFC’s mind/get the legislation for game ratings updated, or Rebellion changes their mind – the Australians will have to go without.

Gamers in Oz are fuming, but it won't be until a major release like the next GTA is banned that they will get up and really make enough noise to get the change they need and deserve

Kinda ballsy of them to just completely forgo the Aussie market. Hopefully more games decide against censoring their own product for the Australian market. Creates more pressure for an AO rating.
I doubt anybody had this on preorder anyway

Those games are pretty fun though.
whats wrong with these stupid censors!!! banning aliens picking on by other aliens?? maybe they thought if aliens visit aus or nz they may be offended if they play this game??

I love how they worded the statement. It sounds like a real dig at Aussie.
And this is why im proud to be a NZ gamer. We get everything. The game actually looks pretty interesting too.

It's just games because they don't have the equivalent of an AO rating for games. Which they have for films.

RIGHT ON REBELLION!!!! It's about time somebody didn't kowtow to an antiquated political system! I'm hoping more companies will follow their example and not "sanitize" their games because some git, who is well past it, doesn't like video games. I love the zinger! LOL!!
