New details have recently been released regarding the sequel to the highly acclaimed GameCube system seller Metroid Prime. Details include new information regarding Metroid Prime 2's latest story and the much talked about new multiplayer mode
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes will once again see heroine Samus Aran traipsing through another alien planet on the hunt for evil. The twist in her latest adventure is that Samus is now being hunted in turn by an enemy assassin, similar to the kind of alter-ego Game Boy Advance owners fought against in Metroid: Fusion. The planet Samus will be exploring this time around will be divided into a dark and light side. Players will have to traverse between these two worlds during the course of the adventure and the gameplay dynamics will be affected by this. It is expected that more will be revealed on this intriguing new gameplay element closer to E3.
The new multiplayer mode has been confirmed to play as a typical 'deathmatch' style. Up to four players will fight against each other while searching for power-ups and weapon upgrades to help them achieve this. Samus's classic morph-ball form is assumed to come into multiplayer as a sort of escape dynamic while will allow a player unready for a shoot-out to quickly flee the scene. Level design will supposedly come with a range of shortcuts and well-placed grapple points to help enhance strategy and accentuate the aforementioned escape dynamic.
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes has been slated for a US release late into the holiday season of 2004. More details are expected to surface closer to E3. NZGamer will continue to keep you up to date with the development of the biggest titles of the year.
