In one of the stranger stories to come out of last week, an unnamed man legally married Nene Anegasaki, one of the lead girls in the Japanese Nintendo DS dating sim "Love Plus" at a church in Guam.
Here's a picture of the bride in her regular in-game attire:

DS in hand, he headed to a church, said “I do” to Nene and with a push of the power button they were on their way.
Footage of the man kissing his virtual bride:
The Media were invited to the man and his DS’ wedding reception to check out slides of the happy man and his indifferent DS game’s wedding.
Reading into this story (far more than we probably should), this sets an interesting precedent for real people/NPC marriages to follow; no doubt there are people out there - who can't marry for various reasons - looking at this and asking "why can a guy and his virtual girlfriend can wed, when I can’t?"
Moreover, in Japan there is a movement to allow for people who, like this guy, want to go a bit further with their favourite game/anime girl to allow them to get married.

Jeez, I thought that Halo wedding was about as cheesy as it gets. This just leaves that in the dust...

Will probably divorce before then and upgrade to a girl with better resolution (PSP).

I suspect he's got the old DS so it still has the GBA slots and stuff. That'll probably make the honeymooon a more enjoyable experience..
