Online social networking sites are increasingly becoming integrated into the functionality of gaming consoles.
Following hot on the heels of Microsoft's announcement to include access to Facebook, Twitter and Movies on Demand to Xbox Live users, Sony have also announced that Facebook access will be included in their new v3.10 firmware update. Gamers will be able to link their facebook accounts with their Playstation Network account, enabling real time status updates about achievements and trophies - and it lets developers cater game information more accurately to interested gamers.
Sony announced the new changes on their Playstation 3 development blog and has also hinted at new features in the v3.10 update, including:
- The Photo category on the XMB has been revamped to make it easier to see more of your photos stored on the PS3.
- The PSN Friends List has been modified based on feedback we received after update 3.00. Additionally, you can now choose a color for your PSN ID on the XMB.
But don't just take my word for it, check out this clip from Sony that explains the firmware update in more depth.

Facebook is stupid, and it's not even a dedicated application to use Facebook, it's just auto-updates.
The photos thing may be useful to a few but most people I know use their PS3 hard-drives for DLC and games. I know a total of two people with lots of photos on theirs.
All really useless stuff. Who the hell cares? I've gotten used to my friends list looking that way now, so now they're going to ugly it up more with colours?

this is pretty much pointless..
Why don't they do a proper update and fix the psn networking.
