2K Games has announced the first lot of DLC for their upcoming 'role-playing shooter', Borderlands. Titled The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned, the content is set for release later this year at 800 MSP on the Xbox Live Marketplace and AUD$12.95 on PlayStation Store.

The expansion follows the story of Dr. Ned, who is tasked with keeping the workers of Jakobs Cove alive. He does his job a little too well and ends up turning the people into zombies and other nasty creatures that now run rampant in the region. Players will have to work alongside the Doctor, as they embark on a quest to cure the people.
In addition to the new story, the expansion features new enemies, quests and rare loot drops.
Borderlands is set for release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 on October 23rd while PC version will arrive on the 30th.

Is this game even out yet?
And yet we already have DLC. Let the rape continue.

WTF? Way to put me off your new game 2K! of course DLC is gonna come out at some point but this is really just taking the p!$s isn't it? With so many quality games vying for my hard earned time and money at this time of year I'm more likely to spend it on one that's not gonna want another $12.95 that shoulda been on the disc, just a few weeks after release.
I see this as a great thing. The game is coming out at a lower price point. $90. Which you get fantastic value for. And if you want more value for this game, you can CHOOSE if you want to pay an extra 13 bucks for an expansion which adds so much more to the game. I think this is a great business model and more companies should sell games at a lower price point with optional additives via post-release support

From what I can find major stores have this listed as RRP $99.95 consoles and PC $89.95 so that would mean after this 'extra' purchase it is still more than say Brutal Legend which is the 'full game' at $109. Trouble is with this added 'if you want it' type content once game publishers realise than can do this, and the consumer complies, the flood gates will open. Sure this is slightly cheaper than a standard PS3/X360 game but it won't be long until we find ourselves paying the standard $110+ price and having DLC content ready pretty much as soon as we get the game home. It's just another step towards the move away from disc based software to all becoming digital ie PSP Go. Personally I don't like it and it certainly doesn't suit NZ's current broad band system.I see this as a great thing. The game is coming out at a lower price point. $90. I want to buy my game be able to put 'entire package' on my games shelf, take it to my mate's and chuck it in their console, and be able to sell it as well. Don't get me wrong some DLC a few months later to extend a game you love is great, I just don't want in 5 years time to purchase Uncharted 5 from EB and have Nate running round an empty desert where in order to get 'extra' from the game I have to download The Sultans Palace, Sully, African Jungle. etc...
Even if the game is cheaper, I think it's completely taking the piss to say to a customer hey you're going to give us money for this, but check this out, you'll also probably give us money for this!
And that's before game release. At least wait until the game is out so it doesn't look like you could have put it on the disc anyway.

I see where you're coming from Ruptunex. It's just the timing that annoys me. They should've waited atleast a month. cuz most gamers would of thrashed the main game through and will be hankering for a new challenge.
Fallout 3 is a good example, they have a few expansions all at reasonable prices for the amount of extra content you're receiving.

Dragon Age is also coming out with DLC on release, but i think u get it with the game purchase which is cool.
Borderlands is definitely a buy for me, and i like the fact the game is less than $100, the DLC is just an option, dont need to take it.

I'm sorry. Would yo rather pay 150 bucks for modern warfare two? I am. But the fact of the matter is, this game is 60 bucks cheaper. And you get so many hours out of it. In comparison to the 6-8 campaign on MW2. Sure in MW2 you get MP Spec Ops. But if you don't like MP, you're paying 150 bucks for sh*t all. I think this way is a fantastic business model and gives far more choice to the consumer.
The next big step in video games with not be based off the technology. The next big step in video games will be the model on which games are priced.

I meant 6-8 hour campaign in MW 2. In case you didn't know. And the post was aimed at KatalystaKaos. I'm sorry. Would yo rather pay 150 bucks for modern warfare two? I am. Yeah I agree on many fronts with your point, but the fact remains that this is too close to release date not to have been finished passed quality assurance before the game went gold. If you want to talk cheapest prices on the game I found a source from Hong Kong that is as low as $75 NZD but I can't just walk in and by that and I can't just walk into Might Ape either the RRP is the key. On COD MW 2 I won't be paying anything for it, maybe $3.50 next year on a rental when there's nothing else to play, but really not my type a game.

You also have made some valid points. But Gearbox have said for a while that there would be a decent amount of post release support for this game. Which i am all for. And also, it hasn't been dated yet. Just announced for the end of the year sometime. You seem to have some decent opinions and justifications, you should totally head on over to the forums. You'd fit in great there.
The thing for me is that i'd rather have the game being released in less than a weeks time without the DLC then waiting till like Christmas for the game with the DLC and it being a bit more expensive, probably just being less then buying the DLC. But of course that might just be me because my birthday is the 24th so im not paying a cent :D lol
Lots of great comments here.) I'm pretty impressed by the discussion on DLC being announced before the game is out.
