Xbox Live Mature Content Off Limits To Kids

Once again we are reminded that kids accessing adult material is bad, and I don’t mean little jimmy getting into his dad’s DVD collection. No, this is serious hardcore mature gaming.

This time around it’s Microsoft spoiling junior’s illegal fun, having recently barred all child accounts from accessing the mature content on Xbox Live; DLC for Gears of War and the like are now off limits to users on child accounts.

Kotaku AU asked Microsoft why, in response Microsoft said: “Microsoft works with individual consumers to resolve customer concerns. We are working with individuals on this situation. New Zealand customers experiencing any issues can contact Xbox Customer Support for assistance by visiting www.xbox.com/en-nz/support.”

Although it’s all good and justifiable to protect the children. The kids will likely just create new adult accounts to access the mature material.

It's been happening a while - but yeah, as I read quoted from Microsoft [ I'll try find where ]; The lady at Customer Support told a person querying about this, that the age limit is based on the e-mail account holder; so yes, I reckon kids will just create a new E-Mail account with the age as over 18 (it's so easy to do) and then transfer their LIVE account over to that E-Mail address.

Yeah this is ridiculous. All it does it make it a little more inconvenient to get DLC, but it doesn't stop anyone who wants it badly enough.

Dont know why they bother, its really just to shut the moaners up and make it look like they are doing something. But its not hard to get around (and they know it) as others have said and it cant be policed really. Just an annoyance for the young fellas. Lucky for me im way beyond the age limit lol

It's silly, but I suppose they're looking to regulate gaming online now. A good example was Fallout 3 dlc it's not regulated online (apart from you have to own the game to play the dlc), but when they started selling it in stores it was rated with R18.

It makes sense, but when you think about it, I can't name one child over 11 years of age who has not played Halo 3 or Call of Duty.

Microsoft actually advise people to create a new 18 or over account. My brother called up and they said to either wait till you're 18 or make a new account. Also it goes by the age of original email so changeing it doesn't work.

Ha. I changed my email when I started the account. f**k having to get it verified by an adult. My account says I am 10 years older than I am.
