I hardly played 08 and 09 so unless this is majorly awesome I think I'll skip this year.

man this franchise is getting stale. Ive reckon they should rebrand it as just WWE 2010 etc and focus on getting the fun back in the game, even if it is at the cost of some realism. Speed up the gameplay and include more brutality for a start. The system has to be changed to take away the reversal snore fest on which most matches become and more onus on attack. THQ tried to bring the 'fun' back in wrestling games with legends but failed epically, which is a shame considering the source material they had to work with. I have not bought a svr game since 07 on ps2 and from the looks of this, despite some crazy new match type or career mode that always gets hyped every year, will no doubt be skipping this.

wrestlemania: the arcade game was the most fun I can remember having with a wrestling game despite how short it was on features, followed by the n64 thq made games

Smackdown 08 and 09 were a huge improvement in the franchise. They slowed the action down a bit to a realistic pace. To be honest I prefer more simulation to arcade mash. If you want the gameplay speed up'ed, pick up one of the old titles. As for the reverse/reverse dynamic. They made it more difficult to counter than it was in 06, requiring more timing, but you can counter almost everything.

No Mercy was counter/counter gameplay to the extreme.

The only weakness in 09 is the lack of Legends and Legend specific goals. All wasted on that other abomination. I have always played with Legend characters where I had the option. The new story threads involving top frachise characters was a massive step in the right direction. Finally when it said "original storylines" on the box, it didn't mean "original to the WWE universe as seen on TV last year".

But all that said, after playing Legends, I shudder to think what will come of the franchise next.

SVR09 has legends now - they're DLC.

I agree with most of that except I thought 08 was awful. Easily the worst wrestling I've played since PSOne.

I agree with the fact that gameplay additions and enhancements have been made such as specific 'superstar' abilities, total control moves etc but none of this has got to the root of the problem, these yearly installments just are not that fun anymore, every year I hire the new installment on release to confirm my suspitions and I always do. There is a reason no SVR game has not scored over an 8 on ign (gamings most accurate reveiwers IMO) for a few years.

Wrestling in every sense is supposed to be fun so realism is one of the last things you need from it.A realistic 'real' fighting game such as FN rnd 4 or UFC 2009 is always going to be more fun than a strictly realistic WWE title. But not a wwe title that takes full advantage of it source-crazy OTT action

So in short out with some realism in with some fun. A reworked physics engine would definately freshen things up for a start.

Don't confuse my 'realistic' statement to be representative of the 'fighting'. I meant more intune with the product you see on TV.

I suspect Legends was their interpretation of 'fun'.

As for Legends DLC, I have the DLC pack... what a half assed attempt that was. Vader, Doink, Earthquake and the Bushwhakers... Vader is the only character with theme music and a video.
