3D Realms - Not Dead?

Ten days ago we reported that 3D Realms was done for – as did a lot of sites. Having a ‘goodbye’ photo up on the 3D Realms site was also pretty convincing of their demise.

However, now it seems they’re alive - and in a legal battle with Take-Two. Today 3D Realms told Kotaku that it was just the Duke Nukem Forever team that was canned and the company still owns the Duke Nukem franchise.

“Despite rumors and statements to the contrary, 3D Realms (3DR) has not closed and is not closing. 3DR retains ownership of the Duke Nukem franchise. Due to lack of funding, however, we are saddened to confirm that we let the Duke Nukem Forever (DNF) development team go on May 6th”

Firing the Duke Nukem Forever team is understandable - given that they have failed to deliver a game after 12 years of development.

Are you guys still anticipating Duke Nukem Forever?

Are you guys still anticipating Duke Nukem Forever? - Not really, I think 80%-90% of old IP should stay old. It's still fun to play those new/old games like Tomb Raider, but they never seem to do the IP justice.

If they start from scratch and make an awesome game, of course I'll be all over that. But it has been 12 years...

I like this part:

"Firing the Duke Nukem Forever team is understandable - given that they have failed to deliver a game after 12 years of development."

It's truly ironic that Duke Nukem Forever has the acronym DNF as in sports terms it means Did Not Finish, destined to fail or ..???
