NZgamer.com thought we would eavesdrop on GameDaily's Q&A session with Playboy: The Mansion developer Arush Games. We found out some fairly important facts on Ubisoft's racey new title due in Feb '05.
Come on we've all dreamed of it, getting into Hughes Robe and take over the Mansion. For decades Hugh Hefner?s parties are what legends are made of, on top experiencing life in the Mansion, the game features 96 real life Playmates from the past 50 years. Apart from the obvious high jinks you can organise the greatest parties every seen at the mansion, inviting celebrities, including actors, athletes, authors, business executives, comedians, fashion designers, models, musicians, politicians, racecar drivers and scientists.
Donald Case, Marketing Manager at publisher Arush Games had a quick Q&A Session with GameDAILY to talk about the game's sex appeal.
GameDAILY: How will you integrate Playboy into this game?
Donald Case:Playboy is an adult-entertainment brand that markets an aspirational lifestyle and the idea of "living life to the fullest". Through Playboy: The Mansion, we believe we can deliver a virtual application of this lifestyle, representing Playboy's rich heritage of celebrating the good-life, self-expression and independence.
GD: Can you have sex with the Playmates?
DC: The game is not about sex, but rather about building a business, empire-building, strategy and the Playboy lifestyle. Of course there will be beautiful women in the game, photo-shoots and implied sexual situations. However, it is tasteful with an element of fun and sexiness delivered in signature Playboy fashion. Any sexual interaction with Playmates really depends upon their individual choices, and how good you (the player) are at building relationships. The game is based on mutual consent; you cannot simply walk up to someone and direct them sexually. Just like in real life, you first must develop a relationship, and have mutual attraction before becoming romantic. Additionally, all real-life Playmates completed forms in advance that dictated their characters' base personalities, as well as the behaviors which their characters would exhibit, from playing sports to getting romanced.
GD: Is there nudity in the game? Just trying to find out how far you can go within the game parameters.
DC: Staying within the parameters for the "M" rating for games (equivalent to "R" ratings for movies), there will be topless nudity in the game. However, nudity is simply icing on the cake for this game, and is not the focus. The real focus is great relationship-based gameplay and business-management simulation, combined in an intriguing, fun mix. The fact that this gameplay is centered in the Playboy world is just a huge bonus!
GD: How will the in-game celebrities interact with the girls?
DC: Just like the Playmates, real-world celebrities also completed a form in advance dictating their behaviour, so it really depends on the character. Some celebrities kept it tame, while others let their hair down. Basically, the way celebrities interact with women depends upon how well their characters' personalities mesh. Again, mutual consent is mandatory. If a celebrity who is amorous meets a Playmate who is amorous, and they get along, then sparks will fly. As Hef, the ultimate party host, one of your jobs at your parties will be to introduce compatible guests to one another, be it romantic or business introductions, and eventually build strong relationships with important people who will help you generate compelling magazine content.
Playboy: The Mansion will be available from Ubisoft on the 10th February 2005, it's also included in NZGamer.com's 2nd Christmas Prize Pack.
As always keep it locked to NZGamer and we'll keep you in the loop.
