Fallout 3 has been cleared for release in Australia. However, there has been some... uh... fallout due to Australia's ratings system. All references to drug use have been completely removed from the game.
Naturally, given the recent situation with Grand Theft Auto IV, this might come as disconcerting news to Kiwi gamers. Will we be left with a watered down version of the game due to ease of distribution to our relatively small country? Will Australia's blinkered view that games are for children cause us to miss out again?
Unlike the hooker situation in Grand Theft Auto IV, drug use plays a significant part in the gameplay of Fallout 3. (Oddly enough, Australia never had problem with Haze. Perhaps because the drug Nectar was fictional?) Thus, removing this content is more than an issue of aesthetics.
We'll be contacting the industry to find out more and clarify the situation, so make sure you keep it locked to NZGamer!

stupid religious people. spoiling it for everyone. if a game is *R16*, then impressionable *children* shouldnt be playing it in the first place!
i hate people.
i hate people.
What is wrong with those people! Why the hell don't they have an R18 rating.
The use of Morphine in Fallout 3 is in line with its intended usage. Morphine is used to numb pain in real life. Guess how it is being used in the game?
@djkicks: I don't think they've ever encountered problems with the MA15+ rating so I don't see them changing it anytime soon.
thats good for aussie what about New Zealand if it dosnt get clearence then I am going to cross the ditch.
After seeing that programme on tv the other day I am worried. All NZ gamers might have to start our own political party if the pot heads can then we can!. Imagine the Prime Minister of New Zealand being a hard core gammer.

Why imagine, I'm sure Helen Clark like's to dablle in a bit of Halo from time to time.
im sure there are a lot of things helen clark likes to dabble in... if you catch my drift ;)
I think it's unlikely NZ will not "clear" the game in its original version, but it will be hard to get the non-Aus version. Ordering online is the way, or may gpstore will bring in the American or European versions.
This is stupid. They banned the game in it's original format because it showed the use of drugs. What the OFLC didn't seem tyo mention was the fact that this game shows the consequences of using Drugs. If you use them, you get a boost in your stat's. If you use them too much, you get addicted, if you get addicted and can't take them any more, Your stats decrease. This game should be allowed Classification in it's original format because it shows the consequences. I'm going to cancel my preorder if i'm getting one from Aussie and Buying from the UK
FFS dont say we will get another cleaned game because aussie is next door and have stupid gaming rules...
I'll be hitting up playasia.com if they give us the gimped Aussie version.
why didn't they ban condemned 2 if you drink beer it improves your aiming with the guns ? hope we don't get a watered down version of the game
