Mercenaries 2 Is Online Region-Locked

Chalk this up to "rumour" for now, but we're hearing that EA doesn't think you should be friends with people outside of your area.

It is forcing new level of cooperative play. Like how Army of Two was online region-locked, Mercenaries 2 also wont support cooperative play between PAL and NTSC. Not only that, but also online play between different language versions is not supported.

"Cooperative online play with the PAL game discs 'English, Spanish, Russian' and 'German, French Italian' is not supported against players with the PAL game disc 'German, English', and cross region play with NTSC is also not supported."

Honestly, I don't understand the reasoning behind this. Given that online play is usually P2P, I can only figure that EA wants to try and limit lag. That, honestly, is pretty silly, since it negates the whole concept of online, especially when it comes to New Zealand. For the record, the Europe is further away than the USA.

We'll try and find out more about this situation, and we'll bring you more news as we get it.

Online region locking between regions is fine (PAL/NTSC). You're not going to have a great game playing someone from the UK or US if you're playing from NZ.

Region locking countries is stupid though (NZ playing against Oz). But i don't think anyones going to do that.

Region locking for p2p gaming is stupid.
Server based gaming (mmos) fair enough. But p2p.. *shakes head*.
Defeats the whole purpose of the internet.
