Despite promises that something for hardcore gamers would be shown at Nintendo's E3 keynote, the chances are that if you blinked, you would have missed it. Nintendo showed nothing from their own stables, and merely demonstrated a handful of third-party releases. Obviously, this left a sour taste in the mouths of many.
Nintendo's answer to the disappointed hardcore? Keep playing Mario Kart.
Cammie Dunaway recently said to GameTrailers: "Keep playing Mario Kart, keep playing Smash Brothers, and check out Animal Crossing with WiiSpeak which I think is going to be a really fun experience. And check out Wii Music. Playing those drums with the Wii balance board is something that I think will be a challenge for even the most hardcore."
Yeah, thanks. I'm sure that playing my multiplayer games over and over will really make up for the lack of single-player epics. I'm not too sure if Animal Crossing really counts as a game for hardcore gamers, either.
However, Nintendo have made it quite clear that they are no longer catering to hardcore gamers. Indeed, Some people even believe that hardcore gamers are no longer the target demographic of the video game industry. And Nintendo are raking in the cash, after all.
Check out the full clip below and be sure to share your thoughts. Do you feel like Nintendo has turned their back on you? Or are you quite content to just carry on plugging away at Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. Brawl?
