Having trouble unlocking the Foundation? Is the Xbox Live Quickmatch mode taking too long to find a game? Suffering from clipping on wide-screen HDTVs? Bungie has fixed it all.

Bungie today issued an official update for Halo 2 that corrects a small number of technical issues that plague the game. If you have Xbox Live the game will automatically update the next time you sign in to your Xbox Live account through Halo 2.

The update will fix the clipping problem that some 480p wide-screen HDTV owners have found during gameplay. The fix eliminates this issue completely.

Secondly, those consumers who complained of extensive waiting periods for a Quickmatch game to be set up (and consequently exited the matchmaking process out of frustration) will be pleased to hear this has been fixed. This waiting time has been normalised.

Furthermore, the glitch that was preventing gamers from unlocking the Foundation level (previously done by completing the game and then activating a 'training event' on the final level) has been fixed. The update will make the Foundation multiplayer map instantly accessible.

To receive the update you are going to need an Xbox Live account, the fix will not be available through magazine demo disks. However, there has proven to be a few creative ways to get the update if you don?t own Xbox Live. You can use the two-month Xbox Live subscription trial included with your copy of Halo 2, download the update and then cancel the trial (before it begins costing you money). Or you could scrounge use of a friend?s Xbox Live account and store the update on a memory card.

Having just grabbed the update this afternoon myself, I can personally vouch for the update's integrity, it is a lovely little fix that further prove Bungie's commitment to Halo fans. Bungie assures us there are plenty more updates and downloadables coming in the near future, including some changes to the online playlists. We can?t wait!
