A long time ago (a good few months)...in a galaxy far far away...(think the boardroom)...programming heads determined that , what with these winter weekends ahead for C4 viewers, what was surely called for was a bit of STAR WARS action! And so, the force will be with you this July, as STAR WARS: THE ORIGINAL TRILOGY rolls out across three Sunday nights on C4.
A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi will each screen in the Sunday Night Movie slot from Sunday July 13th. This incredible trilogy has now assumed its place in history as the worlds most revered saga - busting box office records worldwide, spurring an industry of related business and with a storyline so popular it was predicted to become a religion! Indeed In the 2001 Census 53,715 New Zealanders claimed Jedi learnings (more than Buddhist, Baptist or Mormons!)
So, on Sunday July 13th at 8.30pm join us for the original tale, the one that started it all - initially known as Star Wars and then (to allow room for prequels and sequels) referred to as Episode IV : A New Hope. This legendary 1977 film introduces us to the now infamous characters - Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Princess Leia, Han Solo, R2D2, C-3PO and of course Darth Vader. Can Luke and space pilot Han Solo save the beautiful princess and stop the Death Star before it destroys the Rebel stronghold?!
On July 20th in Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980) - Darth Vader continues his war against the rebels whilst Luke receives Jedi instructions from the mystical Yoda. Meanwhile Han Solo, Princess Leia and the droids flee heated pursuit by the forces of the Empire. Against better judgment, Luke breaks off his training to go and save them ...but is this a trap??!
In the final of the trilogy on Sunday July 27th - Episode VI : Return of the Jedi (1983) - Luke, Princess Leia and Chewbacca sneak into the stronghold of Jabba the Hut where they succeed in rescuing the cryogenically frozen Han Solo. Rejoining the Rebels, they learn that The Empire is creating a new Death Star. And Luke must face Darth Vader (and his heritage) alone.
