We've just received word from 2K Games that BioShock is now targeting a 24th of August 2007 international release, slipping a few months from its rumoured mid-April date.

Developed by Irrational Games, BioShock is the sequel to the award-winning System Shock 2.

After a crash in the middle of the ocean, the discovery of a bathysphere begins your journey to the ocean depths - where the mysterious city of Rapture is uncovered.

BioShock uses an enhanced version of the Tribes Vengeance engine, which is a heavily modified version of Epic Games' Unreal Engine 2.5 technology.

Ken Levine, lead designer at Irrational Games, revealed that the rendering engine and lighting has been completely re-written for BioShock to take advantage of the next generation hardware.
