Doom developer id Software has been honoured at CES with two awards from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

John Carmack, co-founder and technical director of id, was awarded The Pioneering Development Work in 3D Game Engines award, for his cutting-edge work on titles such as Doom.

id software was also awarded an Emmy for the company's technological leadership in rendering breakthroughs, with its Quake technology.

The studio becomes the first independent developer to be awarded an Emmy since the Academy began honouring technological innovation in 1948.

"This is an incredible honour for John Carmack and id Software," commented Todd Hollenshead, CEO of id.

"We consistently push the limits of gaming technology, and it's great to be recognised for the passion and dedication we put into our games," he added.
