PS3 Backwards Compatibility Suffers

Despite taking a few shots at the admittedly lacklustre backwards compatibility on the Xbox 360, it seems that Sony are now experiencing their own backwards compatibility woes. Karma, perhaps?

Approximately 200 games from the PlayStation and PlayStation 2 catalogues suffer from compatibility issues. Notable entries include Silent Hill 2, Final Fantasy XI, and Tekken 5.

Sony have set up a website in order to aid those suffering from compatibility issues.

Unlike the 360, which uses emulation to run original Xbox games, the PLAYSTATION 3 has PlayStation and PlayStation 2 hardware included within the box.

It is unknown to the press at this present point in time what causes the issues, but Sony has promised that it will be fixed in the future with a software update.

The problem is not expected to be remedied by the US launch.
