Applying for a Reviewer Position

So you're keen to be a writer?

You're in exactly the right place! We're always keen to consider applications from budding wordsmiths, and this page is designed to help you apply to join the team.

While we do several different kinds of writing here at, most of the team are reviewers. The position is not currently a paid one, however there are definitely benefits to being involved - including the chance to see your work published on high profile websites like and those of our syndication partners.

To give you an idea of what we expect from a review writer, a review for should be:

It must cover everything that's important for a given title. Determining what's important, which varies by title, is part of the job; the editor is, of course, available for consultation if you're having difficulty.

If you agree to a deadline, you must either meet it or engage with the editor as far in advance of the due date as possible to negotiate an alternative.

Well Written:

Major grammatical errors and spelling mistakes are unacceptable. Your words should lead your readers on a journey through your opinion, before arriving at a clear conclusion.

Set the scene, provide context, and entertain the reader, but don't waffle. There are word limits to adhere to, of course, but in general, walls of text aren't appealing to readers.

Make sense? Does that sound like something you'd like to do?

If you answered "yes" and "yes", read on...

How to Apply

Now that you've read the job description, you're ready to apply to join the team. As the quality of your writing is of very high importance, it's imperative that we get a chance to see whether you've got what it takes to be a regular contributor. For that reason, an application is more than just putting your hand up. In fact, we need you to write something for us to give us an idea of what you're capable of.

Specifically, we need you to write us a review (of anything you like, new or old) according to the list of requirements detailed below. We probably won't ever use this material on the site (and certainly not without your permission, which is not implied simply by applying for the job), but completing it will give us a lot of information about you and is a good opportunity to get a taste for what's involved in the job itself.

Requirements of your submission are that it:

  • Is written specifically for this application, and not used anywhere else on the Internet
  • Is written by you (seems like a strange thing to need to specify, but there you go)
  • Is around 800 words (remember, points are earned for being concise!)
  • Adheres to the description of a review posted earlier on this page
  • Has a overall score out of ten rating your experience of the game
  • Doesn't simply restate the features from the back of the box
  • Is for a game that actually exists and has been released

Once you have written your masterpiece, email it to, along with a little blurb about yourself (who you are, why you want to write for us, a bit about your gaming and writing experience) and we'll take it from there.

We look forward to hearing from you
