You're in exactly the right place! We're always keen to consider applications from budding wordsmiths, and this page is designed to help you apply to join the team.
While we do several different kinds of writing here at NZGamer, most of the team are game reviewers. The position is not a paid one, however there are benefits to being involved: your opinion will be read by thousands of readers from all over the globe; it’s a great chance to see your work published on high profile websites like NZGamer and our syndication partners; and finally you will get games for free.
It must cover everything that's important for a given title. Determining what's important, which varies by title, is part of the job; the editor is, of course, available for consultation if you're having difficulty.
If you agree to a deadline, you must either meet it or engage with the editor as far in advance of the due date as possible to negotiate an alternative.
Major grammatical errors and spelling mistakes are unacceptable. Your words should lead your readers on a journey through your opinion, before arriving at a clear conclusion.
Set the scene, provide context, and entertain the reader, but don't waffle. There are word limits to adhere to, of course, but in general, walls of text aren't appealing to readers.
Then we’d love to hear from you
As the quality of your writing is of high importance, we ask applicants to provide an example article to give us an idea of what you're capable of.
Specifically, we need you to write us a review (of any game, old or new) according to the list of requirements detailed below. We probably won't ever use this material on the site (and certainly not without your permission!) but completing it will give us a lot of information about you and it’s a good opportunity to get a taste for what's involved in the job itself.
Once you have written your masterpiece, email it to firstname.lastname@example.org
Please also include a little blurb about yourself (who you are, why you want to write for us, a bit about your gaming and writing experience) and we'll take it from there.
We look forward to hearing from you
