Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Published Sunday 22 Aug 2010 6:04pm | Xbox 360

9/10

Modern Warfare 2 was a highly acclaimed shooter from 2009. The hype surrounding it was huge and left very little room for fault on Infinity Wards behalf. But it brings me with great pleasure to say that Modern Warfare 2 is no let down. From the Multiplayer to the single player, this game is bound to be spinning in our disc trays for years to come.

To start off, the single player campaign was one of the more immersive campaigns I have played with a shooter. It is polished with its outstanding and breath taking visuals and its stories cliff hangers. While the story is obviously not something that you would get from your typical role playing game, this is still quite an immersive story considering how lack luster first person shooter stories generally are.

The visuals are outstanding. While in multiplayer, the visuals are nothing great or grand, they are quite stunning at certain points of the game. It is amazing to cling onto a mountain with the skin of you teeth and to race a snow buggy through thousands of trees. While at other times the visuals are nothing amazing in closed areas such as multiplayer maps, they are still note worthy.

Onto the multiplayer, this is fairly addictive if you are not careful. The class system, badges and ranking system are all large incentives to keep playing multiplayer for years to come. The custom classes make for a different game each time if you like to mix it up a bit. The largest problem I personally found in multiplayer was how difficult it was to play if you are new to Call of Duty. The people you will be playing are random, so you could be playing a whole team of snipers who know what they are doing. It would have been appreciated if the game integrated a system to match players more relevant to your skill level.

Overall, Modern Warfare 2 does not disappoint. The immersive single player will be a nice starter for Modern Warfare 2 until you go onto the multiplayer which will continue to suck many hundreds over hours out of your life. Enjoy it for all it will give you, which is quite a lot.

Modern warfare was a huge disappointment....your clouded judgement means that you failed to mention that because Infinity Ward were so keen to keep their cards close to their chest they did not have an open beta. This is a huge detrement to the game which became a hacker / exploit fest within days of release. This seriously impacted on my playing experience.

Mind you it is noting new to call of duty games as World at War was subject to "no mates" nubes getting under the map or walking miles above it in mid air after catching "exploit elevators".

I can only hope that Black Ops is locked down tighter this time. I am however not confident of this as Treyarch have once again opted not to have an open beta which may resolve issues prior to release.

As a result I would rate MW2 a 6/10 because while the gameplay is good when it works there are too many cheaters for the game to retain the fun value.

One final question would be "Where is the fun in cheating?" I don't see it....

Stink review mate unless you only played the game once or twice in multiplayer....

"This seriously impacted on MY playing experience. "

You see, that is where you went wrong; my experience was not affected. Write your own review and stop criticising mine because you have problems with the multiplayer. I didn't so I did not Modern Warfare 2 a bad review. Just that simple.

Point taken...maybe you just played single player and your experience was not impacted.

I retract the comment.
