Hey you guys, girls, furries, lolicons, etc. Wow, Writer of the Year, eh? I can't say I expected it but it's great to get it.

 

First of all, thank you Ron and Tristan you guys made me the writer I am today. Thanks to Fapo, for linking me to NZG in the first place. And all the old forumers that stayed with the site and helped the community grow.

 

Secondly, to Angus and Lucy you two were contenders for it and I have no doubt that one of you will be the next Writer of the Year. You're both two of the best gaming journalists in the country.

 

And lastly, thank you the readers/morgaholics/morgamaniacs. You guys are great and your comments make the work that much more rewarding.

 

Now for a little story… Four and a half years ago I had nothing better to do. So out of my boredom I wrote a review about Yu-Gi-Oh! on PS2 and gave it to the guys running a little orange site I barely went to: NZGamer. They offered me a 'job' I said "I'm afraid I'll have to take you up on that offer." Well something to that degree, then the darndest thing happened, NZG started growing and before I knew it, we were the best gaming site in NZ. How the f*** did that happen? I thought I was out of my league, but they didn't fire me, so I stayed and with a ton of help I improved my writing.

 

I've done quite a few reviews over the years, but I'm especially fond of the Bratz Rock Angelz review that game was a challenge to write for, mostly because I'd never look at buying something like that. It gave me the chance to put my own unique spin on a 'girls game' and seemed to get a few fans.

 

Back in September I was honored with the task of writing our first anime review. It was a change from the game reviews I was used to writing. It turned out well enough in part because I'm a huge fan of anime and had seen similar movies like Ghost in the Shell and the first CG Appleseed - Ex Machina didn't disappoint. Here's to Madman for supplying the local market with anime, pity the censors denied NZ the awesomeness of PPP, the most controversial decision this side of Manhunt, in my opinion.

 

With the award money I bought Naruto: Clash of Ninja, Metroid Prime 3 and BioShock for 360. Clash of Ninja is definitely the best title in the franchise with a more traditional approach to the fighting than the other console releases. Metroid Prime 3 is every bit as good as our review says, there isn't much more I can add.

 

And BioShock it reminds me of Doom 3 with the gamma turned up and gene enhancements added, although I think Clive Barker's Undying might be the better comparison. I hope it gets better later on because right now I'm seeing nothing but generic FPS. Ah well, burning zombies is fun! teehee
