Good evening ladies and gents! Today I'm going to share some photoshop skills with you. This tutorial is a bit more advanced than my first one, so if you haven't already, go read it here.
This is what I'll be showing you how to make:
First of all you need to get your resources sorted out. Go to www.planetrenders.net and grab a render you think looks cool. I used this one. Get a few good "C4D's" while you're there too.
Then create a new document around 450x120 (I know it's over the limit but its super hard to make something good that small) And paste in your render (don't resize it at this time) move it around so that it looks good, this will be used as the background for the sig.

Then resize your render and paste it into a new layer above the last one. Put it in an interesting spot.
Then create a new layer, and go Image>Apply Image. Then go Filter>Distort>Displace and choose one of your .PSD files that looks good. Erase any parts that look bad with a soft edged brush. Then add a black to white gradient map and set it the layer to around 50% (mess with it until it looks good)
Then make a new layer and paste in your C4D, resize if you want/colour alterations and put it in a good spot. Set the layer to screen and mess with the opacity of that layer until the C4D can still be seen but isnt distracting. Do this step again and merge the layers together.
(Here you could go new layer and apply image, then move it over a bit and mess with the opacity, which make this next part more important, but in this sig it wont look so good, so I left it out) Duplicate the layer that has your render on it and move it to the top of the stack, set the blending mode to Lighten. This brings the render back into focus.
Here you could do some splatter brush/clipping mask antics, but once again it didnt look so good in this sig so I left it out. Think the sig is looking good at this stage? Lets make it better! Go new layer, Image>Apply Image. Then Layer>Adjustments>Gradient Map and choose the Red Yellow Blue one. It will look pretty screwed up here, but click OK anyway. Set the opacity to around 30%, this should look better now yes? Raise/lower it until you find something nice.
Duplicate the layer with you render on it again and move it to the top, set the blending mode to Lighten. This makes the render stand out.
Now this step is just some housekeeping really. Make a new layer and Apply Image, then go Layer>Adjustments>Levels. I usually adjust the sliders into the middle by around 15, which is really only adjusting the contrast. You can mess with colour levels if you want to here aswell, although the RYB gradient map we added earlier kind of set up the colour style for us already. Add another new layer and set it to Linear Dodge, add some 100px soft white brush marks on the render you want the light to go. Set the opacity pretty low, or until it looks good.
Now we're almost done! Add a new layer, Apply Image and go Filter>Sharpen>Sharpen. Erase any parts that look bad. Now for a border. Make a new layer and get out the rectangular marquee tool, select about 5px of the entire top section all the way across and fill it with black. Move this selection up if you selected too much of it. Then duplicate the layer and move it down to the bottom for the bottom half of the border and do the same.
Add some text, mine has a 2px black stroke on it with a black to white gradient map, just for standing outs sake.
Vollah! Youre done!
