Thoughts from day one...

Is it really day one? We've already had a day of free Xbox 360s and more live music than you can shake a stick at, but today was E3 proper. And it was massive. This is both in terms of the actual physical scope of the show, and the announcements from all the major brands we have spent time with. Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo now all have major programmes of work ahead of them for the 2010/11 year.
I had an all Nintendo Tuesday, while Angus and Shaun spread themselves across Nintendo, Sony and SEGA and Xbox combined. Aside from our major engagements, however, there was also the general electronic soup of E3 and LA to experience. Zombies in cages. Police horses and Lakers fans in the streets. Single booths that could fit entire Armageddon shows inside them. Shooters of Gamer Grub. World record attempts. Free t-shirts (although none of us managed to cash in!). No matter where you go, there's always something to see or do.
Following a long walk right around the show, I found myself at the very edges a couple of times. These are sort of scary and desolate places to be at times. These are where casual game developers and hawkers of products for cleaning your Xbox congregate. Sometimes you find nothing but a big grey wall and a security guard looking at you with “Im'a taser yo' ass” eyes. And yes – it's where you find Gamer's Grub.
This snack has captured our imaginations, and Angus wrote about it in his E3 teaser ahead of flying out. What is it? A snack designed especially for gamers of course. Naturally, it looks like cat biscuits. They had little shooters of them lined up like pills at a rest home. I was going to try them. I almost tried them. They looked like cat biscuits. I didn't try them.
You guys feel like voting on whether Angus and Shaun should try them while I take video? Post below.

LA itself is an up and down sorta place. We're not gonna lie, NZGamer.com is here staying in a pretty divey sort of a hotel, in a sorta divey part of Downtown, but the people are lovely and the town is so packed with alternately under- and overnourished videogame fans that no matter where you go there's always something happening.
We took a walk down Hollywood Boulevard the other day, stopped for a hotdog and lemonade at Skooby's and checked out the walk of fame. You'll have seen some of the pics on Facebook. We also went to the Apple store at the grove where Angus fell to his knees in front of the demo iPads and cursed Steve Jobs' name: everywhere in LA is sold out.
Keep checking in with the E3 hub, as we bash our fingertips bloody bringing you the very best coverage we can muster. We are even shining on an invitation to party at an all expenses paid event with EA, to work ourselves to the bone right now.
You think free 360s and Eminem can make up for that? Do you?

Day 1 of E3 was pretty decent! Nice job to Nintendo for making my wallet cry again.
