Recently, Guitar Hero released something that looks like it'll be an instant classic. Guitar Hero: Greatest Hits. Now, excuse m if his seems out of line, but isn't this what they call a "cop out"? They're releasing this title at full price, but it's not like the developers did much (compared to other games), right? Or is there something integral and basic that they've changed making it a whole new game?
So this got me to thinking. With the death of Micheal Jackson and a funeral fast approaching, Sony is probably going to re-release his old albums. Will things like this start happening to gaming? Are we looking at a market that is going to become filled with retouched, revamped old titles? I sure hope not.
It's a prefix: Re- blog this week, and the next topic is, as you may have guessed, the RE-cession. I have noticed that EB Games are having a HUGE sale at the moment, in Palmerston North anyway. It's also a long term sale as well. Is this because gamers are finally starting to get affected by the recession? Are there other gaming stores that are dropping their prices as noticably as EB is? What about you readers? Has the recession affected your game buying habits? I know it has mine. I'm trading in games more now, trying to get the most bang for my buck.
I'd love to hear your thoughts and opinions.

As for our blog, games, like the rest of the media markets, re-hashes have been happening since the start. Countless Marios, Sonics, Final Fantasies, Castlevanias, Street Fighters, Tekken's, are all just improved versions of previous games.
And with this generation we've already seen Bionic Commando return and probably countless others on the way. Also, what about the re-released games on the marketplaces, it has already been happening for a while.
As for the EB sale, didn't they just buy out Gamesman?? They're probably reducing their levels to a suitable point for profit to be made.
Some re-releases are worth it, take the new version of Pearl Jam's "Ten" album, it sounds much better, although seeing as the band themselves (particularly Jeff Ament) were fairly vocal in their dislike of the mastering of the original, that's not surprising.
I also think the recession is wonderful, I get paid the same, and all the stores are having sales = cheap stuff for me! The USD exchange rate being in reasonable condition doesn't hurt either.
There WILL be a MJ related music game of some form in the near future, it's just a case of how long.
In reply to the last question, I am actually buying more because of the recession because people are trading in their games and I can usually get a pretty decent bargain. :D
These types of topics could be split better across the forums. I appreciate the time you're taking to write about topics, but for their length it is more a question of what we think rather than a giant log of thoughts, research and conclusions.

Regarding all of those re hashes, they do happen a lot, but when they come out, they've got things like new plotlines, different styles of play, different controller setup, etc to make it a better game. GHGH seems to just have taken all of the favorites and whacked them onto one disk. You see what I mean?
pffttt recession i just got a $700 cheque from the IRD
