Are we getting too competitive?

We human beings are very competitive animals. We stive to be the best at everything.
The Olympics are a very good example, and since they just closed on Sunday, I think they are relevant. All the athlets there are all going for the Gold - to be the best in their sport. Michael Phelps just made Olympic history by bringing in the largest haul of gold medals (8 golds in total).
Why does he strive to gain such honors. Money? Fame? A sense of selfsatisfaction?
And this brings us to the blog's topic. Computer Games. I hear at school, forums, even my home the same things all the time.
Everyone seems to be obssesed with the idea of finishing a game. Some will want to finish a game so badly, that they will cheat constantly to do so. The idea of enjoying a game has been thrown out the window by some. Some will even hack the games themselves just to give them a 'faster car' or a 'stronger gun' etc.
I pesonally condemn cheating that gives you an advantage as I believe that games are meant to be fun and enjoyable, NOT something that we use as a means to be competitive. I do enjoy cheats that give 'Ratchet a big head' or 'make your gun shoot chickens' etc, that give you no significant advantage over the game, but are for our enjoyement.
The first ever computer games got it right I beleive.
Ha! Try and get 100% percent on tetris you cheating people who call yourselves gamers!
Where has the fun gone?

If they want to cheat in multi-player games, there are usually games set up just for them. Otherwise they get booted from regular games where people don't want to cheat.
People don't tend to do things in their own time that they don't find fun, so to answer your question;
"Where has the fun gone?" - no where, it's just in a different form for some.
But then again, i know some people that only have good intentions for cheats, and they can make 'em more F@N sometimes....'Ya-mean?
