Kingdom Hearts 3D - Announcment Trailer

Square Enix have announced a new Kingdom Hearts game for the Nintendo 3DS, subtitled 3D: Dream Drop Distance. That's clever for two reasons: the game is in 3D and the subtitle has three Ds in it.

OK, so it's not that clever, but we liked it.

The game is intended to play in a way that's similar to Final Fantasy Versus XIII, which is a cruel tease for fans of that game, as it hasn't been released yet - despite being announced all the way back in 2006.

According to wikipedia, the plot will have connections to Kingdom Hearts coded, Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep and Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days, and Tetsuya Nomura (the game's director) has said that like Birth by Sleep, the story will be on par with that of a numbered title.

The game, which is compatible with the 3DS slide-pad peripheral, is scheduled for release in Japan in March. It's also coming to the west in 2012, although the details as to when are still up in the air - assume sometime closer to Christmas than now and you'd be about right.
